There is a spiritual belief that there is energy all around us, and it can affect us in many ways. Sometimes the energy is positive and full of light. Other times, it can be heavy or just simply dull. Then there are instances where it is dark, causing the hairs at the back of your neck stand on end.
Some quick questions: have you ever had a “gut feeling” about a place or a person? Have you ever been drawn to someone you simply felt you could trust? Have you ever walked in a room, and noticed the place felt dense, thick, or otherwise uncomfortable?
If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you may be someone is sensitive enough to pick on this energy I am talking about. You know how people say a dog can sense if someone/someplace is a good or bad? Humans have that gift, too. Sure, some are more sensitive than others, but at one point of our lives, we’ve all experienced a moment where (without any logical reason) we just knew if something was good or bad, based off what we perceived to be its “energy”.
How does this energy affect you?
The energy around you can greatly affect the way you feel, act, think, or perceive things. Positive energy can give you a sense of wellbeing, happiness, strength, and comfort. It can lift you up, and help you rise above any negative energy that may be trying to come your way. On the other hand, negative energy (whether it be from an outside source or something more internal) can weigh down on you mentally, physically, emotionally, and even spiritually.
Many people have come to here to Dual Crossroads, telling us how they feel as if there is a cloud all around them that just refuses to lift, or that they cannot sleep well at night. Some even say they don’t feel like their usual selves, and that there is weight upon them they cannot determine the source of. This is a common thing that can happen when dealing with negative energy around you. It makes your quality of life and sense of peace be off balance.
Some Ways to Cleanse the Negative Energy around You
If you feel off balance, and want to take steps to clear that energy, then great! First, thing you should do is take a moment to assess what’s causing this negative energy to be in your life.
It is something that you can walk away from? (A toxic relationship, watching too much news, etc)
Is it something internal about yourself that you can change? (Do you complain a lot? Do you tend to blame others? Do you avoid problems or not take responsibility for your actions?)
Is it something psychological? (If it is, remember to never supplement self-therapy for anything your doctor may have prescribed you)
Do you simply feel as if the air around you is somehow unbalanced, or that it is being disrupted by a separate energy outside of your own?
If you’re dealing with #'s 1-3, then there are some outside forces you need to improve on. It may take some time with self-reflection and personal betterment to truly bring things back in balance, but bettering one’s life from something negative to positive is always a great thing to strive towards.
As for #4, this is usually the byproduct of lingering energy from #'s 1-3, or could be something else that stems outside of you. To cleanse this lingering energy, here are some user-friendly methods you can use to help clear the energy around you:
Crystals
Every crystal and stone grown from the earth holds with it specific properties that can be tapped into. Some are great for protection, emotional balancing, or blocking negativity from affecting you. Tapping into this power isn’t hard to do. You do it by simply carrying a crystal in your pocket, placing it by your bedside, or wearing as a necklace. These are very simple, easy ways of cleansing the energy around you. If you want to get more in depth, you can use a crystal grid, which allows you to tap into the power of all your crystals at once, alongside a sacred geometric symbol.
We have crystal (and crystal grids) all over Dual Crossroads, and we get so many comments about how the energy of our store feels just because of their presence. It’s because of this I 100% suggest using crystals for anyone who wants to try something that’s beginner-friendly.
Smudging
The use of sacred herbs, resins and incense is an extremely popular way to cleanse energy. The act of using smoke from sacred herbs or resins to cleanse energy is known as smudging. Smudging has been practiced by various cultures for vast centuries, though it is mostly associated with Native American practices. Native American herbs like White Sage, Sweetgrass, Palo Santo, and cedar are some of the most sought out items in the smudging world. Personally, I adore White Sage, but I also have a great love for resins – Frankincense, Golden Gopal, 7 Archangels (a blend with Frankincense), and Dragon’s Blood.
To smudge the person, place or object you are attempting to cleanse, you will need to light your herbs or resins of choice, and allow the smoke to fill in the space around it. It may take anywhere from a few seconds or minutes before the energy feels lifted and cleansed. Please note that smudging to remove old, unwanted energy is very different from smudging so to remove an unruly spirit. For spirit cleansing/removal, you will want to speak with someone who is properly trained, and/or is a shaman.
Fun fact: smudging is a great way to cleanse your crystals without having to risk them in the sun or wait for the full moon!
Sound Baths
Sound baths and the use of vibrations are becoming an increasingly popular form of energy cleansing. Through the use of sound vibrations, you are able to break up stagnant energy, raise vibrations (both for a location and yourself), and get rid of old energy. You can do this with bells, gongs, and (my favorite) singing bowls. You can easily find singing bowls at your local metaphysical supply store or spiritual store, and they come in various sizes. While it may take some practice, playing a singing bowl is an effective way to clear out old energy.
Here is an example of a singing bowl sound bath you can enjoy at home! It is a sound bath performed by Temple Sounds. This is a 70 minute sound bath, and I highly suggest you take a moment to listen to this somewhere quiet, where you can be uninterrupted. Who knows? It may just do the trick until you can get an in person sound bath.
Reiki
This is probably the most requested service we have here at Dual Crossroads, other than one-to-one smudging. Reiki means “Universal Life Energy” is a hands-on gentle energy healing modality to assist balancing/unblocking your life force energy’s flow. It will infuse you with positive energy, releasing what does not serve you any longer. This vital spiritual energy will activate your chakras, healing them, detoxifying your physical and emotional blockages, while allowing space for you receive what you need to build a full life of love, joy and abundance.
Go Outside
Get some fresh air, and ground yourself in nature. Whether you are going for a hike, a 5 minute walk down the block, or stand out in your back yard or porch, take the time to get outside. Being outside is known to release stress, lower blood pressure, improve short-term memory, and help fight depression and anxiety.
At Dual Crossroads, we attempt to do bi-monthly hikes to nearby trails for 1-2 hours. We do this so we can get outside, get some exercise, and socialize a bit. Everyone feels amazing afterwards, and if you’re nearby, I’d suggest joining us some time. If not, then do it on your own time, and reap the benefits of being outside.
Daily Positive Affirmations
Say something often enough and you will start to believe it. Positive affirmations is a form of positive meditation, where you take 5-10 minutes a day (mornings are best) and say something positive about yourself and/or your life. It is best if you speak in present tense, and refrain from “no’s” like “I won’t be sad”, or “I am not going to ___.” Instead, speak in ways that affirms the goodness within you and around you.
“I am happy”
“Today is a good day”
“I am surrounded by light and love”
“I believe in myself.”
“I am smart”
“I am successful”
“I deserve love and compassion.”
Unsure of what positive affirmations to make? Just do a search on Google Images for “Daily Affirmations”, and you will find a great selection to start off on.
Never Forget to Take Care of Yourself
Taking care of yourself is so important that we don’t realize how much we need it until we start doing it. Once you identify the things that is creating negative energy around you, you can take the steps needed to take yourself out of it.
